SHEDDING NEW LIGHT ON
THE EVOLUTION OF LIGHT THERAPY

A NEW GENERATION OF LIGHT TREATMENT: THE OMNILUX PHOTOTHERAPY TRIO
OMNILUX PLUS™, OMNILUX BLUE™, and OMNILUX REVIVE™

"One of the great things about the Omnilux LED unit is its versatility. You can treat different parts of the body, such as the chest and the décolleté areas, which is extremely important to women patients." — Nicholas J. Lowe, M.D., F.R.C.P, and F.A.A.C.S., Research Dermatologist, London and Santa Monica, CA

Lake Forest, CA — The founding fathers of non-invasive, healing light therapy are few in terms of solid research, yet the field has jumped light years ahead with the creation of the OMNILUX Light Therapy System. This versatile, 3-head, multi-treatment LED (Light Emitting Diode) device, with a respected scientific heritage and numerous clinical trials, is changing forever how skin treatments are done. With today’s consumer demanding more effective, less aggressive, drug-free skin treatments with no down-time, Omnilux is transforming how dermatology and plastic surgery patients are treated. More than 2,200 physicians worldwide now use Omnilux light therapy in their practice, and their grateful patients are spreading the word.  Omnilux light therapy works!

Omnilux Light Therapy employs the principle of photo-biomodulation, stimulating natural biological processes to repair skin at a cellular level.  The device features three easily interchangeable light treatment heads, Blue, Revive (red), and Plus (near infrared), each with a specific wavelength and intensity.  Light is emitted through an array of thousands of carefully arranged, light emitting diodes (LED’s). These pure, narrow band lights activate a series of cellular responses, as the light energy triggers various cell receptors to naturally correct various skin functions. Some wavelengths of light create a more permeable cell membrane and energize the mitochondria, stimulating the fibroblasts to produce more collagen and elastin.  This pure, focused light can also down-regulate other skin functions, such as sebum (oil) production, and stimulate natural porphyrins which generate singlet oxygen to kill acne.

According to Philip Charlton, Vice President, Photo Therapeutics, Inc., the U.S. arm of the British parent company, “The Omnilux trio delivers effective, pain-free skin treatments, quickly and easily. It is a safe modality for all skin colors, and not only repairs the visible signs of aging and sun damage, but also is a versatile tool to treat a broad range of skin disorders.  It greatly reduces post-surgery healing time by accelerating wound-healing, and has been shown to reduce scarring following blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) and mammoplasty (breast surgery).”

Omnilux light therapy produces these amazing results without drugs, injections or scalpels, and each treatment takes about 20 minutes.  This therapy generally requires a series of 6 to 8 treatments performed on clean skin over a 4 to 8 week period. Omnilux treatment is completely pain-free, using just three, proven light spectra to treat, repair and energize targeted skin cells at the cellular level, leaving no scars, depressions or holes in the skin, and with zero down-time. Omnilux also reduces erythema (redness), pain and swelling after chemical peels, microdermabrasion, IPL and Laser surgery.

What Is Light Therapy And How Does It Work?

The Omnilux trio is an FDA-approved medical device, approved for both safety and efficacy, with more than forty-five independent peer reviews and published clinical studies over the past two decades by some of the world’s leading skin specialists; these attest to the effectiveness of Omnilux in treating a broad range of skin disorders.  Not only does it stimulate collagen and elastin for younger-looking skin, the therapy is also compatible with other existing dermatology procedures such as Botox™, dermal fillers and thread lifts.

Only a few selective, low level light wavelengths have been clinically proven in trials to produce optimal photo-biomodulation of the targeted cells being treated.  Omnilux offers only those proven wavelengths in their treatments. These intense, spectrally pure, cool light waves do not burn or break the skin, so there is no damage to either epidermal or dermal tissue. Treatment consists of thoroughly cleansing the skin and placing the patient under the proper light treatment head for about 20 minutes. The only contraindications are for certain metabolic skin disorders, albinism, and photosensitive skin disorders.  Omnilux is able to treat a wide variety of skin problems both large and small, from non-melanoma skin cancers, sun damage, rosacea, acne vulgaris, psoriasis, and vitiligo and is especially in demand for pain-free, non-invasive wrinkle reduction and skin rejuvenation, as well as for accelerated post-surgical recovery time.

Rejuvenating Skin At A Cellular Level

Omnilux has a rich, scientific heritage spanning nearly 20 years. In 1988, Dr. Colin Whitehurst, a laser oncologist working for the Cancer Research Campaign, was seeking a less traumatic method for treatment of various skin cancers.  He created and patented the first Paterson lamp for PDT (photodynamic therapy) and began testing it at the Paterson Institute for Cancer Research in England (this country has the highest incidence of skin cancer in the world). The first Paterson lamp delivered pure wavelength, narrow band, red light at precisely 633 nanometers at a specific intensity of 70 mW cm2, for a specified time frame, and was based upon principles of Photon Absorption Therapy. The Paterson Lamp, and its successor, Omnilux, was found to work on all types of non-melanoma skin cancers without burning or damaging the skin or disrupting normal cellular function.  Dr. Whitehurst says, ”It works by shutting down cancer cells properly, without scar tissue or cellular disruption,” through a natural process of apoptosis. This method of treatment left no holes or depressions in the skin, as with MOHS surgery, the preferred surgical procedure, involving excision of cancerous tissue. Not only was Light Therapy effective in eliminating non-melanoma cancer cells, it was found to have a revitalizing effect on the surrounding tissue, resulting in a firmer, smoother skin texture and a younger-looking skin.  This spurred additional research into other uses for non-invasive light wave therapy.

Photo Therapeutics Established for the New Technology

The company Photo Therapeutics Ltd. (UK) was created by the Cancer Research Campaign charity, Manchester University and Philip Charlton, now a Vice-President of the company, as a means of bringing light therapy technology out of the lab and to the patients. The company continued further research on other new individual wavelengths or combinations of light spectra. This revealed new light spectra, which were highly effective for treating acne, vitiligo, psoriasis, rosacea, periorbital wrinkles and overall skin rejuvenation.  Light therapy was also found to accelerate wound healing and reduce pain, inflammation and swelling.

For example, clinical trials of the Omnilux Blue and Omnilux Revive in combination treatment demonstrated an average 81% reduction in moderate to severe inflammatory acne lesions in a series of eight treatments over four weeks, with substantial improvement in just two weeks after beginning treatment (after 4th treatment). Improvement continued even after the light treatments ended, through the 16th week, as this combination stimulates the skin’s natural immuno-regulatory pathways. (Photos available)

Photo Therapeutics has filed more than 35 worldwide patent applications for the Omnilux medical treatment device and the parent company, Photo Therapeutics, Ltd. in Staffordshire, England, vigorously protect their intellectual property. Considered the world leader in the science and research of Light Therapy, with credible scientific data behind every application, Omnilux treatment modalities have been granted five separate FDA protocol approvals in the U.S. with many more applications worldwide.

Sue D’Arcy, President and CEO of the company states,  “The U.S. is the largest market in the world for medical and esthetic devices and now is the right time for our direct presence in this market with a device that is cost effective and will never become obsolete.“
